Feedback examples
Depending on what's available within your organization, you'll see a number of different options when it comes to Feedback. To make it a bit clearer, we have the following examples of what to use in what situation and who will see the feedback.
- Example 1: I want to write something about a colleague that everyone will see
- Example 2: I want to give feedback directly to another user
- Example 3: I want to let someone's manager know about that person, but I don't want the person to see it
- Example 4: I'm a manager and I want to document something about one of my direct reports for admins and any future manager to see (but not the employee)
- Example 5: My manager and I just met, and I want to keep track of our meeting
- Example 6: I have something I want to document about another employee, but I don't want anyone else to see it
Three notes of importance for the examples:
- The examples speak to a single subject of feedback, but you can select multiple people; when you select multiple people, they will all get the same notification and it will appear the same for all of them.
- You can always add yourself, but the options will vary if it's just you or if there are other people in addition to you.
- Anything shared with a manager will also be visible up the "chain of command" so the manager's manager will also have access.
Example 1: I want to write something about a colleague that everyone will see
- Who is this feedback about? Select the subject.
- Who will you share this feedback with? Use "Entire Company" as the audience.
- Who sees this: Everyone in the organization.
- Who gets notified about this: The subject and their manager.
- Additional commentary: This feature is the broadest use case for Feedback, where this will appear on the Company Info stream of the dashboard as well.
Example 2: I want to give feedback directly to another user
- Who is this feedback about? Select the subject.
- Who will you share this feedback with? Use "Subject" as the audience.
- Who sees this: The subject and your company's administrators.
- Who gets notified about this: The subject only.
- Additional commentary: You can also select to add the subject's manager in this case, so the feedback you provide will also be known to the manager; the manager will get a notification too.
Example 3: I want to let someone's manager know about that person, but I don't want the person to see it
- Who is this feedback about? Select the subject.
- Who will you share this feedback with? Use "Only Subject's Manager" as the audience.
- Who sees this: The subject's manager and your company's administrators.
- Who gets notified about this: The subject's manager only.
- Additional commentary: If the user gets a new manager, that new manager will see the feedback and the prior manager will no longer.
Example 4: I'm a manager and I want to document something about one of my direct reports for admins and any future manager to see (but not the employee)
- Who is this feedback about? Select a direct report as the subject.
- Will you share this feedback with? Use "Only Subject's Manager" as the audience.
- Who sees this: You (as the subject's current manager), your company's administrators, any future manager(s) if the employee is re-assigned.
- Who gets notified about this: Nobody (because you are the one that documented the feedback).
- Additional commentary: If you want the employee to see this as well, you can select "Subject" plus "And Subject's Manager". The subject will be notified.
Example 5: My manager and I just met, and I want to keep track of our meeting
- Who is this feedback about? Select "Add Myself" as the subject so you're the only person.
- Will you share this feedback with? Share with "Your manager".
- Who sees this: You (as a note shared with manager), your manager and company administrators.
- Who gets notified about this: Your manager.
- Additional commentary: If you are assigned a new manager, that new manager will be able to see this shared note, and your old manager will no longer have access to it.
Example 6: I have something I want to document about another employee, but I don't want anyone else to see it
- Who is this feedback about? Select the subject.
- Who will you share this feedback with? Pick "Do not share" for the audience.
- Who sees this: Only you.
- Who gets notified: Nobody.
- Additional commentary: You can pick yourself as the subject to create a note you've taken about yourself.
