Connecting PerformYard's MCP Server in Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot
Introduction
PerformYard's MCP server lets your team use PerformYard from Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot. PerformYard isn't listed in these tools' app marketplaces yet, so you can add it as a custom connector using the PerformYard MCP server URL. This article walks through the setup for each tool.
Setup has two parts: someone prepares the AI workspace (for some plans, an owner or admin), and then each user connects and signs in with their own PerformYard account.
Disclaimer: AI assistants generate their responses using artificial intelligence and may not always capture the full nuance of your data. Review responses and any changes the assistant makes before relying on them.
Before You Begin
- A PerformYard administrator has turned on Company Settings → AI → MCP.
- You have the PerformYard MCP server URL: https://mcp.talent.performyard.com/mcp
- You have the access level shown below for your AI tool.

Who sets it up |
Plans and access |
|---|---|---|
| Claude | Individuals add it themselves. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it first, then members connect. | Every plan can add a custom connector. Free accounts are limited to one. |
| ChatGPT | A workspace admin enables developer mode, creates the app and publishes it to the workspace. | Business, Enterprise and Edu: read and write. Pro: read-only. |
| Microsoft Copilot | A maker adds it as a tool in a Copilot Studio agent and publishes it. An admin approves it. | Makers need Copilot Studio licensing. End users don't. |
Claude
Every Claude plan can add a custom connector. Free accounts are limited to one. Once added, PerformYard works in claude.ai, Claude Desktop, the mobile apps, and Claude Code. See Anthropic's guide to adding a custom connector for the latest steps in the Claude interface.
Claude Free, Pro, and Max
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Enter a name (for example, PerformYard) and the PerformYard MCP server URL, then select Add.
- Select Connect and sign in to PerformYard. See Signing In and Choosing Access below.
Claude Team and Enterprise
- An Owner opens Organization settings → Connectors.
- Choose Add → Custom → Web.
- Enter a name and the PerformYard MCP server URL, then save.
- Members open Settings → Connectors, find PerformYard, and select Connect.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT connects to PerformYard through developer mode and a custom app. Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces get full read and write access. Pro accounts get read-only access. See OpenAI's developer mode guide for the latest steps.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors.
- Create a connector named PerformYard, paste the server URL, and choose OAuth for authentication.
- Sign in to PerformYard and approve access.
- Choose PerformYard from the tools menu in a conversation.
Depending on your plan, custom connectors may need developer mode or a workspace admin:
- A workspace admin enables developer mode in the workspace settings.
- The admin creates a new app and enters the PerformYard MCP server URL.
- The admin publishes the app to the workspace.
Good to know
- On Enterprise and Edu, admins can restrict which actions the app is allowed to take and which groups can see it.
- On Business, a published custom app can't be updated. If PerformYard adds or changes tools, an admin needs to recreate the app. On Enterprise, admins select Refresh instead.
- ChatGPT Enterprise's restrict to corporate identity setting doesn't apply to the PerformYard connector.
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot connects through Copilot Studio. A "maker" adds PerformYard to an agent as a tool, publishes the agent, and a Microsoft 365 admin approves it. Makers need Copilot Studio licensing. End users who chat with the agent don't. See Microsoft's guides to adding an MCP server to an agent and licensing.
- In Copilot Studio, open the agent that will use PerformYard, or create a new one.
- Add a new tool and choose the MCP server option.
- Enter the PerformYard MCP server URL and complete the connection.
- Publish the agent to Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
- Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to approve the agent so your team can use it.
- Users open the agent, connect, and sign in to PerformYard. See Signing In and Choosing Access below.
Signing In and Choosing Access
The first time a user connects, the AI tool opens a PerformYard sign-in page.
- Sign in to PerformYard.
- Review the approval screen. It names the AI tool asking for access and the PerformYard account you're using.
- Choose what the assistant can do. View access is always included. Select Change data on your behalf if you want the assistant to create or update items such as goals.
- Select Allow Access. Your browser returns you to the AI tool.
The assistant can only see and change what you can already see and change in PerformYard. To change your access choice later, reconnect the connector.
