Introduction to Feedback
Overview
Feedback in PerformYard is a lightweight, always-on way for employees and managers to recognize good work, share input, and stay connected — separate from the structured, scheduled process of formal Reviews. Where Reviews capture a periodic, in-depth look at performance, Feedback is designed for the moment: a quick note of recognition, a piece of coaching shared directly with a colleague, or a private reminder to yourself, all given in real time as things happen.
The goal of Feedback is to build a culture of continuous, open communication. It gives every employee a simple way to acknowledge a colleague's contribution, request input when they want it, and keep a running record of the feedback they've given and received — while giving managers and administrators the visibility and controls they need to support that culture at scale.
This article provides a high-level overview of how Feedback works. Each section below links to a dedicated article with full detail, so use this as a starting point and click through to the topics most relevant to you.
The Feedback functionality consists of four core components:
- Giving Feedback
- Requesting Feedback
- Viewing Feedback
- Administration & Reporting
Giving Feedback
Anyone can give feedback about one or more colleagues at any time using the Feedback icon available throughout PerformYard. Feedback can be shared as company-wide recognition, sent directly to the subject (optionally including their manager), sent only to the subject's manager, or kept as a private note. Optional hashtags help categorize feedback as it's given. Once submitted, feedback appears in the relevant dashboard activity streams and daily notification emails, based on who it was shared with.

Requesting Feedback
If enabled for your organization, employees can proactively request feedback from one another rather than waiting for it to be offered. A request can include an optional message for context, stays open for two weeks, and the recipient is never obligated to respond — they can provide feedback, dismiss the request, or let it expire. Outgoing and incoming requests are both tracked and managed from the Feedback section.

Viewing Feedback
All feedback you've given or received, along with any personal notes you've taken, is available from pages within the Feedback dropdown in the navigation such as My Feedback. Available lists vary by role: employees can see feedback about themselves, feedback they've given, and their own notes, while managers additionally see feedback shared about their direct reports. Every list can be filtered by author, subject, date range, or hashtag, and exported to CSV.

Administration & Reporting
Administrators control which feedback options are available to the organization — for example, whether public recognition, one-on-one feedback, manager-shared feedback, private notes, and feedback requests are each turned on. Administrators can also view all feedback shared across the organization (excluding fully private notes) in a single filterable, exportable report, giving HR visibility into how feedback is being used company-wide.
